HK media says veteran actor Adam Cheng, 78, has disappeared from public eye after daughter's death in 2023

For around three years after losing his daughter in 2023, Hong Kong actor Adam Cheng reportedly disappeared from the public eye and was uncontactable by friends.

The Standard reported that his eldest daughter, Angelina Cheng, was 55 when she was found dead in her Southern California home.

She was Cheng's daughter from his first marriage to former classmate Lo Wai Yu, Lianhe Zaobao reported.

However, due to legal restrictions at the time of her death, Cheng was unable to attend her funeral in person, Zaobao reported, adding that this caused him great sorrow.

It also caused him great regret, said his wife Koon Jing Hua (transliterated), adding that Cheng could not recover from the incident for a long time.

Public appearance

Prior to this, Cheng was sighted at a concert with Hong Kong celebrity Elizabeth "Liza" Wang in 2019 before subsequently reducing his public appearances significantly.

According to Zaobao, Wang said in a 2025 interview that she could barely contact Cheng and did not want to disturb him as she hoped to give him space to heal.

The recent media reports came about when it was revealed that while he was not at Benz Hui's funeral, Cheng quietly sent a flower basket to pay his respects.

Cheng is known for his iconic roles in wuxia movies, as well as his role in the immensely popular show "The Greed of Men".
