Drunk driver hits S'pore man, 53, & police officer who had pulled over on side of JB expressway
A breathalyser test showed that the man's blood alcohol content had exceeded the legal limit.
A Singaporean engineer was injured in a traffic accident in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, after he was struck by another vehicle while being issued a traffic summons by a police officer.
Both the man and the police officer were subsequently taken to the hospital.
According to Malaysian news outlet China Press, the accident occurred at around 10:03pm on Jan. 27, along the road from Johor Bahru to Ayer Hitam, heading towards the city centre.
Man was pulled over on suspicion of drink driving
In a statement issued on Jan. 28, the Johor Bahru South Police District said officers on duty had stopped a Toyota Estima on the suspicion that the driver had violated traffic rules, China Press reported.
They instructed the driver to pull over into the bus lane on the left for further action.
The driver who was stopped was identified as a 53-year-old Singaporean Chinese man who worked as an engineer.
As the police were processing the summons, a Honda Civic suddenly entered the bus lane and collided with both the Singaporean man and the police officer, injuring them.
Both were taken to Johor Bahru General Hospital for treatment.
Police investigations later found that the driver of the Honda Civic was a 32-year-old IT engineer, who is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.
A breathalyser test showed that his blood alcohol content had exceeded the legal limit.
Police investigations are ongoing.
