Man, 69, dies of cancer in China after sending adopted paralysed daughter, 27, to nursing home
He had promised to take her home after his surgery.
A 69-year-old man in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, China, sent his 27-year-old adopted daughter, who had been paralysed for over 10 years, to a nursing home after being diagnosed with late-stage cancer.
While he had promised to take her home after his surgery, the man tragically passed away.
According to Jimu News, the man and his daughter had relied on each other for many years.
The man was diagnosed with late-stage cancer in 2025.
Daughter remembers him fondly
Worried that he would not be able to care for his daughter during his treatment, the man sent her to a nursing home in November 2025.
He had reassured her that he would take her home once he recovered.
However, the man passed away on Jan. 3, 2026.
In an interview, the daughter said that while her father was not good at expressing himself, he had always silently protected her through his actions.
"His wish was that I could take good care of myself after he was gone," she said.
She also expressed her wish to undergo rehabilitation treatment and be able to partially support herself with a wheelchair in the future.
Nursing home waived fees
After learning about the father and daughter's family situation, the nursing home reportedly reduced or waived several fees.
Combined with the support and subsidies provided by the local government, the woman did not have to make any out-of-pocket expenses while staying at the facility.
The elderly man had also stayed at the nursing home with the daughter before his death, and was not charged either.
