Woman, 73, punches & chases volunteer with knife at Taman Jurong active ageing centre
The woman had also chased someone with a cane a few weeks before, according to a resident.
A 73-year-old woman was arrested for criminal intimidation after she chased someone around with a knife on Nov. 28.
While at the Thye Hua Kwan (THK) Active Ageing Centre in Taman Jurong, she claimed that her belongings were stolen, and suspected a volunteer of the theft, a witness told Shin Min Daily News.
Before the volunteer could say anything, the woman punched them in the abdomen.
Then, she took out a knife about 15cm long and chased the volunteer around with it.
The witness said she ran over and tried to stop the woman, but was pushed away hard.
According to this witness, who is a nearby resident, the woman had chased a person with a cane in great anger a few weeks before.
Another nearby resident told Shin Min that the woman was a regular at the active ageing centre and typically behaved aggressively.
Police investigations
In response to Mothership's queries, the police said that they received a call for assistance at 337 Tah Ching Road, where the active ageing centre is located, at about 9:30am on Nov. 28.
When Shin Min's reporters arrived at the scene, they saw the police taking the woman away.
An elderly man in a hat was speaking to police officers, assisting in the investigations.
No injuries were reported.
The police have completed their investigations into the case, they told Mothership.
After careful consideration of the facts and circumstances, and consultation with the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC), the police gave the woman a 12-month conditional warning on Nov. 28 for the offence of criminal intimidation.
