'Why didn't you wait for mummy a little longer': M'sian mum after son, 16, dies from suicide
A suicide note was reportedly found at the scene.
After her 16-year-old son took his own life on a hill in Bentong, Malaysia, the mother expressed her heartbreak on Facebook.
"My heart hurts," she wrote in a post late on Dec. 9, the day the boy's body was found. "Why didn't you wait for Mummy a little longer?"
That day, Loh Zhong Kit did not come home after school, and could not be contacted even by nightfall, prompting his family to call the police for help, Sinchew reported.
Later, his motorcycle was spotted at the bottom of Bukit Desa Damai, a hill around 417 metres tall.
The Bentong Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call about a missing person and conducted a search-and-rescue operation at Bukit Desa Damai, the department said on Facebook.
Eventually, the department and the Royal Malaysia Police found Loh, who was examined by medical personnel and reported dead at the scene.
Suspected to be suicide
Loh was rumoured to have climbed up a transmission tower at the top of the hill and jumped.
A piece of paper that appeared to be a suicide note was reportedly found at the scene, and the police are investigating the case, Oriental Daily reported.
According to information posted by Loh's mother on Facebook, the family will be organising a wake on Dec. 11, before cremating the body on Dec. 12.
Gone too soon
Loh's mother talked about how she had too little time with her son.
"The time I spent with you was so short," she wrote on Dec. 10. "I could not watch you grow up, and when you grew up, we only spent a little time together. You are gone just like that. Hope you live happily in heaven. Hope you rest in peace."
Loh's parents had been divorced for many years, and he was raised by relatives as a child, his mother told Sinchew.
She had lived nearby and kept in frequent contact with him.
After those relatives passed away, Loh had been living with his father's family for the past two years.
Loh loved climbing mountains, his mother shared.
Whenever he was feeling down, he would go climbing and enjoy the natural scenery.
For this reason, his mother suspected that he might have been unhappy before his death, and thus went to Bukit Desa Damai, which was near where he lived, to clear his head.
