He intends to plead guilty.
A Singaporean driving examiner was charged with allegedly attempting to obtain a bribe from a driver test student at the Bukit Batok Driving Centre.
In a press release from the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB), 39-year-old Muhamad Zahirey Bin Ishak faces one charge under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
According to Lianhe Zaobao, Zahirey appeared in court on Dec. 11 and said he intended to plead guilty.
His case is adjourned till Jan. 29, 2026, as he requested time to process matters.
Showing leniency
At the time of the offence, Zahirey was a driving tester with People Advantage Pte Ltd, deployed to Bukit Batok Driving Centre.
On May 23, he allegedly tried to get S$150 from a driving test candidate at Bukit Batok Driving Centre.
This would be a reward for showing leniency during the candidate's practical driving test, allowing the candidate to pass and qualify for a Singapore Driving Licence.
If found guilty, Zahirey could be fined up to S$100,000, sentenced to a jail term of not more than five years, or both.
