A 30-year-old woman in Malaysia has shared her excitement at welcoming a new sibling after her mother, who is now 51 years old, was confirmed to be pregnant.

Nur Amira Bilsabri, the eldest of three siblings, said she was happy and ready to support her family following the unexpected news, which has since drawn widespread attention online.

The clip

@bymira9550kilang kita pun dah lama tutup eh tahu2 ibu yang sambung bukak kilang balikšŸ˜…šŸ¤£. Mybe Allah titipkan dalam rahim ibu untuk saya 🄹😭 rezeki tahun baru ..♬ Comedy Scenes - Comical, stupid, odd, lovely (Drumless Loop)(1441322) - Ponetto

The story gained traction after she uploaded a video on TikTok showing her mother, Ayati Hussin, undergoing a medical examination at a clinic, with the clip amassing over a million views.

In the clip titled, "POV: Getting to know what it feels like to have a sibling even in my 30's", Nur Amira expressed her shock at getting another sibling even at her age.

Beside her, her mom can be seen jokingly saying that the child belongs to Nur Amira instead, denying that it is a ā€œsiblingā€ and instead "her child".

Pregnancy

According to Nur Amira, her mother first began noticing unusual changes when she felt persistently unwell, tired easily, experienced a loss of appetite and spent more time resting at home.

Believing the symptoms might be linked to menopause, Ayati initially did not suspect she was pregnant and only decided to take a pregnancy test later, according to Sinar Harian.

Nur Amira said:

ā€œWhen the test came back positive, my mother was very surprised. She didn’t think she could still get pregnant at her age.ā€

She also added that her mother had experienced several previous pregnancies that did not come to fruition.

Nur Amira said her mother took several days before breaking the news to her children, as she was still processing the shock and worried they might struggle to accept it given their age.

During that period, Ayati reportedly spent much of her time alone in her room.

ā€œShe thought her periods were irregular because she was nearing menopause,ā€ Nur Amira explained.

The family has since come to terms with the news.

While her mother was worried about the news, Nur Amira's stepfather on the other hand, Suaat Mohamed, 61, accepted the pregnancy openly and viewed it as an unexpected blessing.

Nur Amira also assured her mother that she would be more than willing to help care for her younger sibling in the future.

ā€œI’m very happy even though the age gap between us will be quite big."

According to Nur Amira, her mother is scheduled for follow-up check-ups at a health clinic to monitor both her condition and the development of the foetus.

She added that, as far as she is aware, her mother does not suffer from high blood pressure or diabetes, and that her younger brother is helping to care of their mother at the moment while their father is at work.

Online reaction

Nur Amira said that she chose to share the video on TikTok simply to document a meaningful moment for her mother and stepfather, but did not anticipate the clip going viral.

While many netizens offered prayers and words of encouragement, she said others left critical or sarcastic remarks, including comments about her parents’ still being ā€œactiveā€ and her mother’s fertility, reported Harian Metro.

ā€œI don’t take it to heart. As one of her children, I’m happy, and I just hope my mother and the baby stay healthy."
