S'porean actor Wu Weiqiang, 78, celebrates 48th anniversary with wife onboard SIA flight

78- year-old veteran actor Wu Weiqiang and his wife, former news presenter Yin Lan Bok, celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary in the most unexpected, yet memorable way: at about 30,000 feet in the air.

Speaking to Lianhe Zaobao, Wu shared that the couple were on a Singapore Airlines flight home from Hong Kong on Dec. 23 when they were given a sweet surprise by the cabin crew, who presented them with a cake and a handwritten card.

Surprise planned by their daughter

Wu later revealed in a Facebook post that the gesture was actually arranged by their daughter.

She wanted to surprise them and had secretly informed the airline of their anniversary a week earlier.

Penned an essay for his wife

Wu also shared a short essay he wrote during the flight, titled《纪念，为了感恩》(which can be translated into: "Remembering, with Gratitude").

In the essay, Wu expressed his deep gratitude for having Yin by his side from beginning to end, noting that even the tears shed during their hardest years now carry a sense of sweetness because of her.

He also thanked her for her unwavering support and steadfast presence throughout their journey together.

He concluded by writing: "To be able to walk side by side with you in this life is what I am most grateful for."

Veteran actor

The Mediacorp actor is best known for his roles in dramas such The Awakening (1984), The Coffee Shop (1985), and Dr Justice (1994).

The two have been married since 1977, and the couple have three children together.
