Commuters on Taipei's metro were rattled by a fellow train passenger on the evening of Dec. 25 and started fleeing,

This was after a man started shouting and striking a train window with an umbrella, causing panic to ensue.

The man reportedly had a panic attack after being bumped into by another commuter.

This incident occurred about a week after the deadly Taipei metro knife attack on Dec. 19.

Panic

In a clip shared on Threads by user @hcw0928, panicky commuters were seen running away from a train carriage.

Some commuters tripped and fell amidst the commotion.

One person could be heard asking, "What happened?"

Another replied, "I'm not sure."

A lady could also be heard yelling for commuters to stop pushing and for them to get off the train after it pulled into the station.

The crowd exited the train and made their way up an emergency exit staircase.

The person who filmed the scene wrote in the caption that he did not know what had happened, but fled after seeing others running.

Personal belongings were seen left behind in the train carriage in the aftermath of the incident.

The panic was apparently caused by a man who began shouting and hitting a train window with an umbrella, Formosa TV reported.

Man suffered panic attack

According to Central News Agency Taiwan, at around 8:32pm, a commuter pushed the emergency communication button and reported that there was a dispute on the train, Taipei Metro's operator said in a statement.

The incident occurred along the Songshan-Xindian line at Beimen station.

Later, a mother shared that her 40-year-old son had an emotional outburst after being bumped into by another commuter, TTV News reported.

She explained that her son had no malicious intent, FTNN reported.

Local police shared that they suspected the man had a panic attack.

A 70-year-old woman suffered a fall during the ensuing chaos and was treated at the hospital.

Taipei's rail operator reminded its commuters to remain calm and alert the authorities if they come across any suspicious activity.
