S'pore motorcyclist praised for helping to clear traffic on CTE for ambulance
The ambulance company thanked him for his quick thinking.
A motorcyclist recently attracted much praise online for helping an ambulance clear traffic on a highway in Singapore.
On Dec. 25, the man, who goes by Nixon Teo on TikTok, posted a video of the incident on the platform, taken from his motorcycle dash cam.
It was dark when Teo was riding on what looks like the Central Expressway (CTE), and saw an emergency ambulance on the adjacent, rightmost lane.
The ambulance, which had the logo of Medlink Healthcare Group printed on the back, was blaring its siren and flashing its lights.
However, it appeared to be moving slowly and struggling to get past the cars in front of it.
"The ambulance was really trying to overtake everyone, but the jam was really bad," Teo wrote in the video.
He decided to "take up a little side quest" to help the ambulance to clear traffic.
Quest
Teo switched to the lane the ambulance was on, overtook it, then started gradually overtaking the cars in front.
He lightly honked at each car so that they would change lanes to their left and give way to his motorcycle.
In so doing, Teo got the cars to clear the way for the ambulance at the back to pass faster.
At the end, Teo thanked another motorcycle for helping.
The other motorcycle appeared to be riding between the two lanes, possibly preventing other cars from getting onto Teo's lane and obstructing the ambulance's path again.
Praise
Teo's actions were noticed by Medlink Healthcare Group, whose official TikTok account commented on his video to thank him.
"Thank you for taking on this 'random side quest'!" they said. "Your quick thinking in helping our ambulance clear traffic during an emergency truly made a difference. Much appreciated."
Others in the comments were similarly impressed and full of praise for Teo's helpful efforts.
"Every second can be critical in life and death situations, for example during a medical emergency where delays can mean the condition worsens rapidly," one pointed out.
Another wrote, "The thought of you might’ve saved someone’s life is TEARING ME UP."
