German tourist, 84, found dead, shirtless & kneeling at hotel bed in Phuket
The housekeeper climbed from the fourth floor to reach the room's balcony.
A German tourist was discovered dead and kneeling at the foot of his bed in a Phuket hotel room on Nov. 30.
He was found only after a friend reported him as uncontactable to the police, reported Khaosod English.
The man was identified as Lothar, from Kranz, Germany.
According to the police, he was shirtless and and appeared to have been dead for hours.
Door was locked from the inside
Police said Lothar was found kneeling with his head and hands reposed on the mattress.
A housekeeper from Myanmar told the police that she had knocked on the door for housekeeping duties that morning, but did not receive an answer.
In the evening, Lothar's friend notified the hotel that he was unreachable by phone.
As door was locked from the inside with a chain, the housekeeper had to climb down from the fourth floor to reach the room's balcony.
Medication found
There were no signs of forced entry or struggle, the police said.
Medication for cholesterol and high blood pressure was found in the room.
An autopsy has been conducted, and the German Embassy has been informed and will contact relatives of the deceased.
