The daughter of Zulfikar bin Mohamad Shariff, who was previously detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA), has perished in a car crash in Melbourne, Australia.

Sayyida Nafeesa Zulfikar, 21, died in a freak accident after her Honda crumpled under a falling pole on the Hume Highway in Melbourne, reported News.com.au.

The 54-year-old took to Facebook to confirm the news that his only daughter had died on her way to work.

Truck smashed into pole

Sayyida was driving along the highway when a truck and a red sedan collided in front of her on Dec. 9, at around 7:45am local time.

Rearing from the crash, the truck rolled over and smashed into a pole, which fell onto the roof of Sayyida's car.

According to 9News, paramedics treated Sayyida, but she could not be saved and died at the scene.

The truck driver was conveyed to the hospital in serious condition, while the people in the red sedan were uninjured.

She was travelling in the opposite direction, on her way to work as an administrative officer at MyCollege, an independent Islamic primary school.

Zulfikar said his wife and five sons are devastated by her death, reported 9News.

"She's always there to help anyone. She holds our family together."

Zulfikar, who is now an Australian citizen, resettled in Melbourne with his family in 2002.

He renounced his Singaporean citizenship on Aug. 26, 2020.

On Nov. 26, 2025, his social pages had been disabled for stirring up discontent within the Malay/Muslim community against the Chinese community.

The directions were issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to TikTok and Meta under the Online Criminal Harms Act.
