US man, 46, charged with molesting sleeping girl, 6, at Changi Airport, faces possible jail & caning

An American man, 46, was handed a molestation charge after purportedly outraging the modesty of a sleeping six-year-old girl in the departure transit area of Changi Airport Terminal 3.

The incident happened on Dec. 9, 2025 at around 5pm, when Jeffrey Alan Carreiro allegedly kissed and touched the girl's stomach area.

Carreiro also purportedly lifted the waistband of her trousers and peered inside, reported The Straits Times.

On Dec. 11, the American was charged and ordered to be remanded at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) for a medical examination.

Girl was asleep

Carreiro had allegedly approached the girl and her mother whilst they were asleep next to each other on a bench in the transit area.

The girl's mother woke up to find Carreiro purportedly molesting her child and she immediately confronted him.

Carreiro walked away from the scene as the girl's mother alerted the police. Carreiro was arrested within four hours.

He was caught by officers from the Airport Police Division, who used CCTV footage to establish his identity.

The court will hear the case again on Dec. 23.

For the molest of a child under 14 years old, an offender can be imprisoned for up to five years, fined or caned, or receive any combination of such punishments.
