The two suspects of Sydney's Bondi Beach shooting have been identified as a father and a son, said Australian police on Dec. 14, 2025.

Sajid Akram, 50, was shot dead by police after exchanging gunfire with police while his son Naveed Akram, 24 is in hospital under police supervision, reported Australia Broadcasting Corporation.

The massacre occurred during the first day of Hanukkah, in what was believed to be a targeted attack on the Jewish community.

Authorities in New South Wales (NSW) stated that 15 civilians were killed, including a 10-year-old girl, 42 others were injured.

The total death toll stands at 16 including gunman, Sajid.

Gunmen allegedly pledged allegiance to IS terror group

The son, Naveed, is a Pakistani national according to CBS News.

He had ties to a Sydney-based Islamic State (IS) terrorism cell and was examined by Australia's domestic intelligence agency in 2019.

Two IS flags were discovered in their car at Bondi Beach, reported Australia Broadcasting Corporation.

NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon, spoke to reporters on Dec. 15, and said that Sajid was a licensed firearms holder.

"[That] person had a firearms license for a number of years, for which there were no incidents and it was regulated."

CBS News reported that investigators recovered the gunmen's six licensed firearms.

Police are still investigating the Akram's Bonnyrigg home in NSW, after a raid on Dec. 14, reported Australia Broadcasting Corporation.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called the attack, "an act of pure evil".

"What we saw yesterday was an act of pure evil, an act of antisemitism, an act of terrorism on our shores at an iconic Australian beach."

He lamented that the joyful Bondi Beach was now "forever tarnished" by the events of the shooting.

Albanese stated that terrorism struck the heart of Australia and "an attack Jewish Australians is an attack on every Australian", reported News.com.au.
