About 70 shared & personal bicycles block the way at Simei condo bus stop for months
The bicycles are used by people living in the condo.
About 70 rental and personal bicycles were seen parked next to a bus stop outside Melville Park condominium in Simei, causing inconvenience to the public.
The accumulation of bicycles at the location is not new, and has been ongoing for several months now, Shin Min Daily News reported.
The bicycles were parked near the bus stop and the surrounding areas where there was available space, which encroached onto the public footpath and caused pedestrians to walk around the two-wheelers.
Bicycles used by residents
A 30-year-old resident of the condominium said the situation has been ongoing for several months and the bicycles tend to accumulate in the area in the evenings.
A Shin Min reporter observed that some of the bicycles appeared to have not been used in a while, as they are caked in dust and have rusted.
The situation has been compounded as bicycles continue to be parked there, while those not in use continue to remain in a state of disrepair, which causes the overall numbers to grow.
It was suspected that users of bicycle-sharing platforms only need to scan a QR code to end the trip without having to park the bicycles at the designated areas.
Condo residents use bicycles
It was observed that many of those who used the bicycles reside at the condominium.
According to some, they ride to and from work nearby, as it is relatively affordable.
Some of the residents opt to cycle to work as there are no public transport services available past or before a certain timing, and commuting on bicycle is relatively cheaper.
Others only take public transport if it is raining.
Residents of the private property urged cyclists to park the bicycles at the designated parking spots, and called on the authorities to step in.
