Vietnam woman, 39, poisons husband & 2 young relatives to death after family dispute, begs for leniency during trial
She was sentenced to death.
A Vietnamese woman was sentenced to death for poisoning multiple family members due to different family disputes.
On Nov. 27, 2025, a Vietnamese court found the woman, Nguyen Thi Hong Bich, guilty of murder.
She had killed her husband in 2023.
Bich had placed cyanide into a capsule of her husband's medication.
According to Vietnam Net, the man had experienced numbness in his limbs and was hospitalised in January 2023.
He passed away about 10 months later. Due to his existing sicknesses, his death reportedly did not arouse any suspicion.
Bich would later admit to using insurance money from her husband's death to settle her own debts.
Niece and nephew
Bich also poisoned other family members.
She had a financial dispute with her younger sister in 2023. On Jan. 1, 2024, she laced a drink with cyanide and gave it to her seven-year-old niece.
On May 25, 2024, upset with her brother and sister-in-law, she gave yet another poisoned drink to her 12-year-old nephew.
Both children died.
Her cyanide scheme unravelled after Bich attempted to poison another young family member.
The 19-year-old however managed to survive due to being rushed into hospital on time.
The doctors discovered cyanide in his stomach and alerted the family members.
The family then reported the incident to authorities who then arrested Bich.
Leniency
During closing statements in court, Bich cried and apologised to her family. She also begged for leniency and said she hoped to see her daughter again.
Bich was found guilty of murder and the illegal possession, transportation, and use of toxic substances.
She was sentenced to death.
