Fire breaks out in Tanglin Halt Koufu, allegedly started in cai png stall

A fire broke out early in the morning on Nov. 28 at the Koufu food court at Block 88 Tanglin Halt, located next to Commonwealth MRT station.

It happened at around 6:40am, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) in response to Mothership's queries.

The fire reportedly broke out in the food court's cai png stall, forcing the food court to closure.

Photos and videos circulating on social media showed SCDF firefighters attending to the blaze.

 Shopkeepers rallied to help

Shopkeepers in the vicinity told Shin Min Daily News that the food court was already open when the fire began.

One shopkeeper said that their staff brought two fire extinguishers to the food court, while a nearby supermarket similarly provided extinguishers.

They wanted to help put out the fire, the shopkeeper said.

SCDF subsequently arrived and extinguished the blaze. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
