12 men & 1 woman arrested for assaulting half-naked man with chairs & knives in JB's Taman Mount Austin

Police investigations indicated that the assault resulted from disputes over debts.

A group of men were seen assaulting a man with metal chairs and slashing him with knives at a mamak stall in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, during the wee hours of Dec. 27.

Although the victim, 27, tried to defend himself with his hands, he fell to the ground after sustaining injuries to his head, arms, and legs, reported China Press.

Following the incident, Malaysian police arrested 12 Malaysian men and a Vietnamese woman, aged between 20 and 40, from various parts of Johor Bahru.

According to Malaysian police, investigations indicated that the incident resulted from disputes over debts between the parties.

Six of the suspects also tested positive for Ketamine, which could trigger hallucinatory effects on abusers, added the police.

Assault caught on camera

According to Malaysian police, the incident took place at a mamak stall at Taman Mount Austin in Johor Bahru at around 3:50am on Dec. 27, reported Sin Chew.

The scene of the assault was caught on camera by onlookers, and the videos were uploaded to Facebook.

According to the videos, at least seven individuals could be seen standing around the victim, with some assaulting him with metal chairs.

At the same time, several men were seen attacking two other men on the side.

Two groups of onlookers could be seen at the scene while the attacks unfolded.

Slashed victim

At one point, the half-naked victim tried to stand up, but he immediately collapsed to the ground.

Two men in white subsequently began slashing him with knives multiple times before two men in black joined the attack.

Later on, the attackers began to leave the scene successively, but some of them made a return to assault and curse at the victim.

After the attackers left, two individuals approached the victim, who was lying on the ground, to check on him.

One of the individuals subsequently began using his phone, presumably to notify the authorities.

Attackers had criminal records, abused drugs

In a statement issued on Dec. 28, the Malaysian police said that local authorities arrested 13 people in Johor Bahru within 24 hours of being alerted to the incident, reported Sin Chew.

The police also seized seven mobile phones, a knife, and the outfits the suspects were wearing during the attack.

The assailants were accused of attacking the victim and his friend with metal chairs and knives, causing the victim to sustain injuries and abrasions all over his body.

The victim is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital, revealed the police.

Amongst those arrested, seven of them had multiple criminal records and were convicted of abusing drugs.

The Vietnamese woman will remain in remand until Dec. 30, 2025, to facilitate investigations.

All other accused will remain in remand until Jan. 3, 2026, added the police.
