He also drove a borrowed car without a driver's license to deliver e-cigarettes.
On Jul. 5, 2022, a man saw his ex-girlfriend with a male friend and became enraged. He attacked both of them, punching and knocking his ex-girlfriend to the ground.
He also attempted to drive his car into the man, who managed to flee to a nearby coffee shop, reported Shin Min Daily News.
Drove borrowed car without license
The man, Peng Yangguang (transliteration), who was 26 at the time of the offence, pleaded guilty to four charges, including voluntarily causing hurt, possession of a dangerous weapon, driving without a licence, and violating the Prevention of Harassment Act.
He was sentenced to eight months and nine weeks in prison and six strokes of the cane. He was also prohibited from holding a driver's license of any level for two years.
According to Shin Min, Peng did not have a driver's license but drove a car to various parts of Singapore to deliver e-cigarettes. At approximately 10:20 pm on the same day, he drove to Canberra Street, hoping to run into his ex-girlfriend.
Attacked ex-girlfriend and male friend
He later noticed her talking to a male friend and immediately went up to them, verbally and physically abusing the male friend. After fleeing initially, the male friend turned back and saw Peng punching his ex-girlfriend repeatedly, causing her to fall to the ground.
The male friend shouted at Peng to stop, and Peng chased after him as he fled to a multi-storey carpark. He eventually stopped chasing the male friend, but kicked the man's vehicle before returning to his own.
When Peng saw that the male friend was still in the carpark, he drove towards him, forcing him to flee to a nearby coffee shop. After Peng left, the man eventually asked a passerby to help him report the incident to the police.
The ex-girlfriend suffered a one-cm gash on the back of her head and swelling on her right shoulder. According to the prosecution, Peng had also assaulted her in June 2022.
Additionally, he also drove for an extended distance without a driver's license with a passenger onboard, endangering the lives of other road users as well as his own.
