An online forum user in Hong Kong was left in disbelief after receiving a wedding invite from an old classmate from 10 years ago.

The invite came with a wish list for various home appliances and electronics, some costing over S$300.

The user later discovered that he was only invited to witness the wedding ceremony, and not the banquet.

Out of the blue

According to HK01, the user shared the absurd situation in an online forum.

In late December 2025, he received a WhatsApp message from an old classmate, inviting him to his wedding.

The two weren't close and lost touch after graduation 10 years ago.

They did not connect on social media either.

"I didn't even know he was dating. Heck, I didn't even know if the partner was a boy or girl," the user quipped.

Wish list

Along with the invite, the user also received a Google Form link.

Curious, he opened the link, only to find a wish list for various home appliances and electronics.

In the form, the groom-to-be apparently wrote that the wish list was "just for consideration", and guests are invited to gift whatever they deem fit.

Guests were also told that they didn't have to decide immediately, but should drop the engaged couple a message if they have, so the list can be checked off.

“Feel free to get the gifts as a group," the form description read.

The items on the wish list included a De'Longhi coffee machine, De'Longhi coffee grinder, a Beurer heated underblanket and a Quico 2-in-1 hair styler.

A Quico 2-in-1 hair styler costs about HK$529 (S$87.32), while a De'Longhi EC685 coffee maker costs about S$299.

An Insta360 X3 camera is listed at S$359 on the Insta360 website.

In another message on the form, the couple also listed several items that they did not need.

"We do not need the following items. Please convert your generosity into applause during the ceremony," the message read.

The user later found out that he was only invited to witness the wedding ceremony, and not the banquet. Which meant there wouldn't even be any food.

Mixed sentiments

Fellow forum users opined that the recipient should ignore the invite or block the classmate.

However, some users reasoned that sending a wish list can help avoid waste, but the fact that the invite and wish list were sent to someone they hadn't met in 10 years made it harder to stomach.
