Truck in China hits & kills driver & passenger pushing out of battery electric vehicle on highway
The driver and passenger died despite rescue efforts.
A driver and passenger of an electric vehicle in Guangdong, China were killed on Dec. 26, 2025 after they were rear-ended by a truck on a highway.
The duo were pushing the vehicle that had run out of battery.
Sin Chew Daily reported that the driver was ferrying two passengers in his vehicle when he was forced to stop on the slow lane of the highway after the vehicle's battery ran out.
As he was pushing the vehicle with one of the passengers, a truck crashed into them due to low visibility, 8world reported, adding that the driver and passenger had only pushed the vehicle for 20m when the accident occurred.
Low battery
This comes after the driver informed passengers before entering the highway that the vehicle's battery was low and could travel approximately 80km, according to finance.sina.com.
The passengers supposedly suggested charging the vehicle before setting off but the driver allegedly did not heed their advice, chineseherald.co.nz reported.
During the journey, the passengers reportedly reminded the driver to stop and charge the vehicle's battery as it passed two service areas, but the driver allegedly ignored them and continued driving without stopping to recharge.
Prior to the accident, the vehicle completely lost power as it was about 500m from the third service area.
Rescue efforts
Following the accident, both vehicles were damaged to varying degrees, Sin Chew Daily reported.
In addition, the driver and passenger were taken to the hospital but died despite efforts to resuscitate them.
