The Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project team has successfully completed its first train dynamic run on the RTS Link mainline, marking a significant milestone for the cross-border rail project.

First dynamic test covers full mainline route

According to a Facebook post by RTS Operations, the inaugural test was carried out on Dec. 26, 2025, and forms part of the project’s testing and commissioning programme.

The test train departed from the Wadi Hana Depot in Johor Bahru, passed Bukit Chagar Station, travelled along the viaduct sections of the line, reached the international border, and returned safely to the depot.

RTS Operations said this inaugural run marked the first in a series of dynamic tests planned under the project.

Engineers from both sides involved in test

The run was participated in and witnessed by engineers from RTS Operations, Jacobs, CRRC, Pestech and CHEC, with support from InfraCo partners Malaysia Rapid Transit System (MRTS) and Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA).

RTS Operations said the test reflected the strong cross-border collaboration behind the RTS Link project.

Safety checks completed ahead of dynamic testing

Prior to the dynamic run, several key safety and technical checks were completed, including line clearance, onboard system verification and traction power readiness.

Initial test runs will be conducted at low speeds, with speeds gradually increased as testing progresses, subject to strict safety requirements, RTS Operations added:

“As testing advances, our focus remains firmly on operational readiness, with safety at the core of every step."

RTS Link expected to open in 2026

The RTS Link is designed to connect Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru with Woodlands North in Singapore, with an estimated travel time of about five minutes between the two stations.

The cross-border rail service is currently targeted to commence by December 2026.

Each train will be able to carry more than 600 passengers, with a peak capacity of up to 10,000 passengers per hour per direction.

At launch, the service is expected to operate with eight trains, with the shortest interval between trains being about 3.6 minutes.

The first trains are set to depart from each end of the line at 6am, while the last trains will leave at midnight.
