The family of the late Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin, also known as Iris Hsieh, has issued three demands in the wake of her death in a luxury hotel room in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Oct. 22.

According to China Press, Hsieh's family has retained lawyer Chen Junda to represent them in Malaysia to ensure evidence in the murder investigation are not compromised.

Want fair and transparent investigations

Chen said the family’s top priority is to uncover the truth behind 31-year-old Hsieh's death.

They also hope that the public can respect the deceased and protect Hsieh’s reputation, while ensuring that the investigation is conducted fairly and transparently.

The legal team has been tasked with preserving the integrity of all evidence.

With the family’s authorisation, legal representation of their interests has been established in Malaysia in the hopes of securing all case-related materials and physical evidence.

Preservation of evidence

Chen has reportedly formally written to the criminal investigation department in Malaysia, requesting the preservation and retrieval of all evidence related to the hotel where Hsieh’s death occurred.

Chen also asked for surveillance footage from three hours before and after the incident, covering the hotel’s main entrance, corridors, elevators, and Hsieh’s room.

He also called for an investigation into anyone who may have entered the room, including staff, to determine why they were there and the purpose of their presence.

Lastly, he requested a review of the hotel’s check-in and check-out records, as well as phone records of relevant individuals within six hours before and after the incident.

Chen added that he has not had any contact with Namewee or his legal team to date.

Background

Hsieh, a Taiwanese influencer, was in Malaysia for work when she passed away on Oct. 22.

It is believed that Malaysian rapper Namewee and Hsieh had been working on filming a video together and were discussing matters in a KL hotel room that day.

Namewee has denied taking drugs or being involved in Hsieh's death.

He was originally charged with possession and consumption of drugs on Oct. 24.

The case has been reclassified as murder.
