Simonboy starts Forever Megan Charity, donates necessities to M'sia orphanage
The charity aims to help those in need.
Local content creator Simonboy, also known as Khung Wei Nan, has founded the Forever Megan Charity in remembrance of his late daughter.
On Nov. 6, his 38th birthday, Khung stated in an Instagram post that he was grateful for the support he has received thus far, and the opportunities handed to him.
In the same post, he said he wished to give back to society by launching a charity as a tribute to Megan's memory, with the slogan, "Her Love Never Ends".
Four-year-old Megan died of abuse at the hands of her mother, Foo Li Ping and Foo's then-boyfriend Wong Shi Xiang, on Feb. 22, 2020.
Charity's 1st project in Klang orphanage
In a 26-minute-long video posted on YouTube the same day, Khung documented the charity's first project, a visit to an orphanage in Klang, Malaysia.
Khung shared that an Instagram follower of his messaged him in May, asking him to visit the Good Samaritan Home.
During his visit, Khung donated food, money, household supplies and daily necessities.
"They [the Instagram follower] told me many of the children there have parents who are drug addicts. When I heard that, I said yes right away."
Khung has been open about his past struggles with drug addiction and was named the Singapore Anti-Narcotics Association's (SANA) first ambassador.
During a sharing session with the children, Khung recounted his life experiences including his parent's divorce at the age of two, his time serving three periods of incarceration and his eventual success.
Khung added that despite the pain of losing Megan, transforming his grief into kindness would be able to positively impact the lives of the orphans.
"I really hope these kids will learn how to love and how to give. If we want them to learn that then we have to be the example."
Background of the case
A case review report of Megan's death published on Oct. 23 showed a "lack of clear understanding and communication" among social service agencies.
Efforts have been put forth to strengthen the child protection ecosystem following her death.
The police officer in charge of her case has since resigned and the supervisor involved was handed a financial penalty.
