Batam ferry en route to S'pore collides with chemical tanker, 165 passengers safely rescued
All passengers and crew from both ships are safe and have been successfully evacuated.
A Singapore-bound ferry carrying 165 passengers and seven crew members from Batam collided with a chemical tanker in Singapore waters on Monday evening, Nov. 11.
No injuries or fatalities were reported, according to Antara News.
The collision
The incident involved the MV Horizon 9, a Singapore-flagged vessel operated by Horizon Ferry, and the LA Digue, a Marshall Islands-registered chemical tanker.
The collision occurred at about 7:30pm, shortly after the ferry departed Batam’s Harbour Bay Terminal at 4:30pm.
“All passengers and crew from both ships are safe and have been successfully evacuated to Singapore’s HarbourFront port,” said the head of the Batam Port Authority (KSOP), as quoted by Antara News.

Eyewitness account
A TikTok video that has now been widely shared on social media shows a first-person account of a passenger, Tedi Arfandos, aboard the ferry right before impact.

In the video, passengers exclaiming and prayers can be heard when a loud bang reverberated through the ferry upon collision.
MPA statement
According to a Nov. 11 statement from MPA, an MPA patrol craft was immediately deployed to escort and guide the ferry back to HarbourFront Centre.
All 165 passengers and seven crew members on board the Horizon 9 safely disembarked at the Regional Ferry Terminal at HarbourFront Centre.
The statement added that despite some damage to its bow above the waterline, the ferry remained "fully operational" while en route to HarbourFront Centre.
There were no reports of injury to passengers and crew, or pollution arising from the incident.
The tanker also did not report any damage, while navigational traffic and port operations remain unaffected.
Investigations under way
KSOP has been cooperating with Horizon Ferry and Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) to monitor the situation.
They assure that investigations are under way to establish how the collision occurred.
