According to Shin Min Daily News, the incident took place at around 7pm at the FairPrice outlet at Block 212 Bedok North Street 1.
Close call
A resident who witnessed the incident told Shin Min that he was nearby when he was startled by a sudden loud bang.
He turned around and realised that the FairPrice signboard was dislodged and had fallen onto the ground.
Fortunately, no one was hurt.
The resident added that moments before the sign fell, a man had walked directly underneath it and a woman, a FairPrice employee, also narrowly missed being struck, describing the incident as a close call.
Signboard moved to back of HDB block
Following the incident, another FairPrice employee came out to inspect the fallen sign.
He and nine other colleagues later worked together to move it aside and cleaned up the area to ensure that the walkway was passable.
When a Shin Min reporter visited the site a day later, he observed that the signboard had been moved to the back of a Housing and Development Board (HDB) block.
The reporter also described the signboard as being made of a solid iron frame, and estimated its size to be at least 4m long and more than 1m wide.

The spokesperson said they have also begun inspections of shopfront signages at other outlets to "ensure a safe environment" for shoppers: "The safety of our customers and staff are our priority, and we are committed to ensuring a safe and pleasant shopping environment for all."
