3 kids sent to M'sia orphanage because of dad's financial difficulties, adjusting well & making friends
They are waiting for a recommendation letter to attend primary school.
Three Malaysian children who were sent to Jaz Home, located in Perak, Malaysia, are adjusting well to life there.
Sin Chew Daily reported that according to the orphanage staff, the children aged five, seven and nine have good personalities.
They noted that the children's two-year experience in a Kuala Lumpur children's home helped them adjust more easily to Jaz Home.
Their father, Huang Guowei, sent them to Jaz Home on Oct. 13 due to financial difficulty.
Background
As a lorry driver in a Kuala Lumpur construction firm, he earns a monthly salary of RM2,600 (S$798).
From the money he saved, he used RM300 (S$92) per month to pay for his children's living fee.
Though a previous children's home in Kuala Lumpur agreed to reduce the fee from RM400 (S$122) to RM300 (S$92), Huang still could not afford it.
He then transferred his children to the orphanage because it did not charge any fees.
Adjusting well
The children are integrating well into the orphanage, according to Sin Chew Daily.
When other children living in the orphanage returned from school, they took photos with the three children.
They also gave the three children presents to welcome them.
Eye check-up
In addition, one of the orphanage staff took the children for an eye exam at an optical centre.
The exam found that one child had over 200 degrees of astigmatism, and the optician donated a pair of spectacles to her.
Another child was found to have mild myopia, and the boy has Strabismus.
According to Cleveland Clinic, it is an eye misalignment condition where one eye is turned in a different direction from the other eye.
School
Sin Chew Daily reported that the boy was sent to a local kindergarten on Oct. 15 to receive elementary education.
The orphanage has also requested letters of recommendation for the two girls from the Social Welfare Department.
This is so that they can apply for admission to a local primary school via the Education Department.
The orphanage estimates that it will take a few days to two weeks for the approval to be issued.
Orphanage
The orphanage's chairman Kong Sun Chin told Sinar Harian on Oct. 15 that the orphanage accepted Huang's request for his children to live there without paying any fees.
This is because of Huang's current difficult living conditions.
The chairman added that the orphanage does not prohibit Huang from meeting with or taking his children whenever he wishes.
He explained that the orphanage currently houses 43 residents who are orphaned or come from impoverished families.
The orphanage, established in 2009, has operated on its own funds before receiving public donations and grants from government agencies, he added.
He said: "Here, we send them to school and we also provide tuition for the children so they can excel."
"Many children who have lived here have successfully continued their studies at university, and some are even pursuing a Master's degree," he added.
