A divorced father in Malaysia sent his three children to an orphanage as he could not afford to provide for them.

Sin Chew Daily reported that the father Huang Guowei sent his children aged five, seven and nine to Jaz Home.

It is located in Perak, Malaysia.

Emotional farewell

Members of the orphanage went to Huang's house on Oct. 13, 2025, to pick up his three children.

Huang appeared visibly emotional while talking about his predicament.

He gave his three children words of advice and could not speak several times after getting choked up.

The children either cried or quietly listened to their father.

His son cried and hugged his father's thighs.

Huang told him to study hard so he could fulfil his dream of becoming a police officer.

However, Huang had no choice but to carry his son and travel to the orphanage together as he refused to let go of Huang.

Simple lifestyle

Huang made this difficult decision due to financial difficulties.

As a lorry driver in a Kuala Lumpur construction firm, he earns a monthly salary of RM2,600 (S$798).

He keeps his meals simple—coffee for breakfast, bread for lunch and rice for dinner.

From the money he saved, he used RM300 (S$92) per month to pay for his children's living fee.

Though a previous children's home in Kuala Lumpur agreed to reduce the fee from RM400 (S$122) to RM300 (S$92), Huang still could not afford it.

He then transferred his children to the orphanage because it did not charge any fees.

Divorced

Huang had his three children with his Vietnamese ex-wife, whom he married in 2016.

The court approved their divorce on May 30, 2024, and Huang was granted custody of the three children.

Huang added that prior to the verdict, his ex-wife reportedly asked for their son and gave Huang their two daughters.

Together with her relatives, she allegedly harassed him at his house before the verdict.

However, the court ordered all three children to be given to Huang.

Due to the harassment, Huang initially sent his children to a non-profit children's home in Kuala Lumpur.

However, he decided to transfer them to Anshun Jaz Home, which is free, as he could not afford the children's home fee in Kuala Lumpur.

Not attending regular school

His children were previously attending church classes instead of regular primary school and kindergarten.

He hopes that by placing his children in Anshun Jaz Home, they will have a better life and a good education.

Huang added that he will return to Kuala Lumpur for work and visit his children from time to time.

Psychological counselling

Sin Chew Daily reported that the orphanage will apply through the Social Welfare Bureau for the children to attend a local kindergarten and primary school.

The orphanage will also arrange for counsellors to provide psychological counselling for the children.
