ICA finds Pokémon trading cards worth over S$30,000 after S'pore man, 25, didn't declare them
The case has since been referred to Singapore Customs for further investigation.
Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers found a stash of Pokémon trading cards worth more than S$30,000 during a routine baggage screening on Oct. 10.
In a Facebook post on Oct. 14, ICA said that the incident occurred at Changi Airport Terminal 1 after a 25-year-old Singaporean man failed to declare the items.
Allegedly denied he had anything to declare
According to ICA, the man was directed to the baggage screening area following his arrival in Singapore.
When questioned, he reportedly said that he had nothing to declare.
Officers subsequently scanned his luggage, and later discovered a large quantity of assorted Pokémon cards stored inside multiple boxes.
The case has since been referred to Singapore Customs for further investigation.
ICA has urged travellers to declare and pay duty and GST on all goods purchased overseas exceeding duty-free concessions and GST relief.
When in doubt, travellers are advised to just declare the items at the Red Channel or at the Singapore Customs Tax Payment office at checkpoints.
