After Singaporean singer-producer Hong Junyang went public about going bankrupt, his wife Candyce Toh has spoken up in solidarity.

Hong was listed in a government gazette of bankrupt individuals by the Ministry of Law, which was made public in September 2025.

Since 2018, Hong, 44, had been venturing into the food and beverage industry alongside music.

On Oct. 13, he told AsiaOne that he had accumulated debts from his Thai street food restaurant chain The Original Boat Noodle, which had been struggling financially since the pandemic.

Hong first pursued a career in music after finishing as the second runner-up in the local talent search competition programme "Project SuperStar" in 2005.

It was on the programme that he met Toh, who was a fellow contestant.

After getting married in 2009, the couple went on to have two daughters, now aged three and nine.

Strength & courage

On Oct. 14, the day after the news broke, Toh, who is an actress, commented on it in an Instagram post, with a black-and-white photo of Toh and Hong's hands clasped together.

In Mandarin, she expressed gratitude for the messages of concern and encouragement she received.

"This incident showed me a man's sense of responsibility," she said. "He bravely faced and bore the consequences, displaying strength and courage."

She said she also saw in Hong a husband who is devoted to his family, and a father who loves his children dearly, she added.

Toh reassured everyone that she was doing well, and that she was working hard to find a balance between family and career right now.

In English, Toh addressed Hong and repeated her wedding vows to him, which she said she would hold true to "no matter what comes [their] way".

"I promise to cherish and respect you, to care and protect you, to comfort and encourage you, and stay with you, for all eternity," she wrote.
