S'porean singer-producer Hong Junyang, 44, declares bankruptcy

Singaporean singer-producer Hong Junyang, 44, has been declared bankrupt.

He was listed in a government gazette of bankrupt individuals by the Ministry of Law, which was made public in September 2025.

Hong shared that his financial situation arose from debts from his Thai street food restaurant chain The Original Boat Noodle, saying that the business had faced difficulties since the pandemic, according to AsiaOne.

Started out as a contestant on Project SuperStar

Hong first rose to fame after participating in the first season of local talent search competition programme "Project SuperStar" in 2005, where he emerged as the second runner-up.

Following the show, he signed a recording contract with Universal Music, and later hosted television programmes, such as "Campus SuperStar".

He released his debut album Du Jiao Shou (独角兽) on May 26, 2006.

At one point, Hong also moved to Taipei, Taiwan, to pursue his career as a freelance music producer and songwriter.

Ventured into F&B

Beyond music, Hong also ventured into the food and beverage industry.

In 2021, Hong started café-cloud kitchen Caf, short for Clickafood, according to 8days.

Just three months later, he opened Bananabro, an Indian banana leaf rice restaurant.

He also co-owned The Original Boat Noodle, a Thai street food restaurant chain, with two other partners.

All three establishments have since ceased operations.

In July 2023, Hong opened a Korean food stall called Oppa Kitchen at Tam Chiak Kopitiam, a coffeeshop co-owned by Chew Chor Meng, Dennis Chew and food blogger Maureen Ow (better known as Miss Tam Chiak).

Married with kids

Hong is married to Singaporean singer Candyce Toh, 45, who was also a contestant on "Project SuperStar" in 2005.

The pair got married in 2009 and have two children together.
