Taiwanese airline EVA Air is investigating online claims that an in-flight supervisor ignored the condition of a flight attendant who became seriously ill during a flight and subsequently died.

She was on a flight from Milan, Italy to Taiwan.

According to Focus Taiwan, the post, claimed to be written by a fellow flight attendant, claimed that the supervisor did not contact a ground-based service that offers guidance during in-flight medical emergencies.

Instead, the supervisor allegedly insisted she continued working.

"Systemic and long-term indifference to crew members' health"

The same report claimed that the flight attendant's requests to use a wheelchair and call an ambulance once the flight landed were ignored as well.

The woman was eventually sent to a hospital, where she later died.

According to an ET Today report, the sister of the flight attendant also criticised the supervisor and his actions.

The post took aim at the "systemic and long-term indifference" to crew members' health, and said this was not some "regrettable coincidence".

In a joint statement, the Taoyuan flight attendants union and EVA Airways' corporate union said they are looking into whether the supervisor's behaviour constitutes workplace bullying.

They hoped the tragedy would make the airline more responsive to its cabin crews, who they said are often afraid to take sick or personal leave for fear it would affect their performance review and annual bonus.

Focus Taiwan also reported that the Taoyuan City Office of Labour Inspection would dispatch its own officials to begin investigations into the incident.
