A teacher at a secondary school in Selangor, Malaysia, has expressed deep remorse after a 16-year-old female student was allegedly stabbed to death by a 14-year-old male student in the girls' toilet on Oct. 14.

Teacher filled with guilt

According to Sin Chew Daily, a male parent, who was also a reporter, shared that one of the victim's teachers told the other parents that she felt immense guilt for allowing the female student to leave the classroom to use the toilet.

Had she refused to let the student leave the classroom, she felt the tragedy could have been avoided.

Victim's close friend traumatised

The same male parent revealed that his daughter was classmates with the deceased, and that the two were close friends.

He said his daughter was deeply shaken by the incident and suffered psychological trauma following the sudden loss of her friend.

His daughter kept crying and was inconsolable upon returning home that Tuesday.

"My daughter's mood has been very unstable and we have to keep comforting her," he said. "We decided to let her stay at home to rest and not let her go to school (on Wednesday)."

He added that he and his wife felt that the most important thing at the moment was to let their daughter have a good rest, and hoped that the school and mental health professionals would provide psychological counselling for students affected by the tragedy.

Teacher told parents to let their children stay home

Sin Chew Daily also reported that the same teacher sent a message to parents on the night of Oct. 14, expressing the school's shock over the incident.

She advised parents to allow their children to stay at home and rest on Wednesday.

She also reassured parents that ensuring the safety of students has always been the school's top priority. and called on parents to closely monitor their children's behaviour at home.

The teacher encouraged parents to check any online purchases and packages their children receive, and to maintain open communication to help their children grow in a safe and healthy environment.

Victim was allegedly stabbed 50 times

According to Sin Chew Daily, the 14-year-old male suspect allegedly brought a knife to the school.

It was later revealed he had brought three weapons with him, one of which was used in the stabbing.

Investigations revealed that the boy may have confessed his feelings for the girl the night before the attack, but was rejected.

However, Malaysia police have since said the boy never interacted with the girl as they were from different levels and classes, and he may have harboured feelings for her.
