M’sia fatal school stabbing: Suspect, 14 reportedly bought knife online & showed it off in class
Police are tracking down the online seller.
The actions of the 14-year-old boy who allegedly stabbed his 16-year-old schoolmate in a Selangor school were likely due to "emotional factors" and social media, said Malaysian authorities on Oct. 15.
According to The Star, Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar said that early investigations revealed that the boy did not have any prior disciplinary or mental health issues.
Purchased weapons online, showed knife in class
The boy had also reportedly bought his knife and karambit online, reported Malay Mail.
Local authorities are still determining which online platform was used to buy the objects, which the boy said he had purchased "some time ago".
He had also previously displayed his knife in class, according to Shazeli.
Police to step up patrols in schools
According to Bernama, Shazeli said that police will also begin conducting more patrols across schools in Selangor.
The patrols include deploying police vehicles into school compounds and enhancing police presence during school hours.
This aims to ensure the safety of students, teachers and parents, and to allow for efficient response to such incidents when necessary.
