Indonesian helper falsely accused employer’s husband of rape to end her affair with him, gets 1 week jail
The woman's lawyer said her client did so out of desperation to end the affair.
An Indonesian domestic helper in Singapore was having an affair with her employer's husband.
In a bid to end the relationship, she filed a false police report against him, claiming that he had raped her.
The woman was sentenced to one week's jail on Oct. 14 after pleading guilty to one charge of giving false information to a police officer, The Straits Times reported.
She cannot be named due to a gag order to protect the man's identity.
Affair started in September 2024
Citing court documents, ST reported that the woman began working for the family in May 2023 and helped to take care of their son, who was one month old.
The affair between the woman and the employer's husband began a year later, in September 2024.
However, on Feb. 25, the woman filed a police report against the man, alleging that he had sexually assaulted her more than once.
She added that he would turn off the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage in the flat and touch her inappropriately.
When the woman went to KK Women's and Children's Hospital for a medical examination the same day, she told the police that the man had given her extra "pocket money" ranging between S$50 and S$100.
She said that though she accepted the money, she did not consent to any of the sexual acts between the two of them.
However, when the police interviewed the man later that night at around 10:30pm, the man said that the acts were consensual, ST wrote.
The woman later admitted that she had lied about being sexually assaulted, saying that she did so as she felt guilty about the affair and wanted to end it.
She also believed that the man's wife was aware of their relationship.
Filed the report out of desperation
According to ST, the woman's lawyer said in court that her client had lied out of desperation to end the affair.
The woman was afraid that the wife, who was her employer, would find out and that she would lose her job.
The lawyer added that the woman did not keep up with the lie for an extended period of time, and the man was neither arrested nor placed on bail.
If convicted of giving false information to a public officer, the woman could have been jailed for up to two years, fined, or both.
