Chinese couple holidaying in Sabah goes missing, 50-personnel search & rescue operations ongoing

A Chinese couple who were holidaying in Sabah has gone missing.

According to Malay Mail, staff from the Sutera Mantani Resort, where the couple stayed, noticed they were missing after they had missed their checkout time.

Yu Xiaopeng, 25, was last seen in a long-sleeved shirt and black pants, while Fan Qin, 28, was seen in a short-sleeved top and black shorts.

A police report was filed on Oct. 5, 7:57pm.

A search and rescue operation is being carried out, with over 50 personnel from the police, marine police, air operation forces (drone unit), among others.

According to SCMP, this is the third such disappearance involving Chinese tourists in the last 12 months.

Police chief Shahrudin Mat Husain urged the public not to speculate or share unverified information that could "hinder the investigation".
