A 61-year-old man was found dead in his Sembawang home on Sep. 4 where he lived alone.

This was after neighbours noticed an odour from the flat and reported it to the police.

They had also notice that the lights in the unit had been left on for several days and became concerned that something had happened to the man.

The incident occurred at Block 363C Sembawang Crescent, according to Shin Min Daily News.

The police reportedly found the man half-naked and motionless on the ground.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics and investigations are ongoing, though no foul play is suspected.

Persistent odour

Neighbours reported smelling an odour for at least a week before the man was found dead.

A neighbour said he initially thought that the odour was the smell of food gone bad, but it persisted for days on end.

It was still faintly present even days after his body was removed from the unit, and residual blood from the body could be seen on the unit's floor, Shin Min reported.

According to neighbours, the man had only lived in the unit for a few months, and he was believed to have been a security guard.

He was also remembered as a very friendly neighbour who got along with the children in the neighbourhood.
