Taiwanese actress Chiang Tsu Ping, 47, claimed on Threads in August 2025 that a staff at a local television network drugged and sexually assaulted an actress.

She later publicly disclosed the accused's name, appearance, and television station affiliation, Central News Agency (CNA) reported.

Chiang also revealed that she was the woman and that the staff member was her ex-boyfriend Gong Yi Ting, who is the son of a vice president at Sanlih E-Television (SET Taiwan).

She was initially hesitant about revealing that the victim was her, as she did not want her mother to worry.

After her mother found out what happened, she reportedly cried for three hours.

Chiang claimed that Gong had drugged and sexually assaulted her, even though they were then a couple.

Chiang also said that other women had come forward to her, sharing other incidents where the accused harassed women in the past.

Gong has since come out to give a public statement and claimed that the allegations were false and one-sided.

In the comments, Chiang called Gong pathetic.

SET Taiwan said Gong has been suspended and that investigations by the police are ongoing.

Discouraged "public trial in the media"

As this apparent scandal unfolded, the director-general Chang Hsiu Yuan, of the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Department of Protective Services, commented on the topic.

The ministry had faced criticism after recommending that victims not post about their situation on social media, Taipei Times reported.

He discouraged victims who have faced violence from seeking help through "public trial in the media", CNA reported.

Chang said that while the act is not illegal, it is not appropriate and that victims should instead make a report to the police, preserve evidence, and allow the judicial process to proceed.

Chang's comments sparked backlash.

Online commenters questioned whether Chang was condemning the victim or shielding the perpetrator, according to CNA.

Ruling Democratic Progressive Party Legislator Huang Jie took to Threads to stress that there should be “zero tolerance for sexual assault” and praised Chiang for “bravely revealing her case of being sexually assaulted, which needs great courage", as reported by Taipei Times.

Huang also encouraged members of the public to support Chiang.

"Zero tolerance for sexual assault"

The ministry later said in a statement that Chang's comments were meant to be a reminder that when sexual assault occurred, the most important thing is to properly protect the person affected and provide them with legal assistance, Taipei Times reported.

This is especially so for public figures, who might experience secondary trauma if the case is reported by the media.

On its Facebook post on Saturday (Sep. 6), Taiwan's Ministry of Health and Welfare said that it supports victims to seek assistance and would continue to offer support by providing them with consultations, social workers, and medical and legal resources.

"Zero tolerance for sexual assault," the post wrote.

In the latest update to the case, the vice president Gong Mei Fu has resigned from SET Taiwan.

According to Lianhe Zaobao, Gong Mei Fu had a huge influence in showbiz and was one of the key people behind successful dramas like "Ah Cheng" and "Taiwan Tornado".
