A man in Illinois, U.S. has been charged after shooting at a bird that had flown into a building, only to hit and kill his daughter instead.
Emma Schultheis was just six days from her 15th birthday when she was fatally shot, the NY Post reported.
David Schultheis, 34, was trying to shoot a buzzard that had flown into a brick building, said the Monroe County Sheriff's department in a statement on Sep. 5.
However, a bullet went through a window and struck his daughter Emma, who was standing outside.
She was rushed to a hospital, but later pronounced dead.
Schultheis faces one felony count of reckless discharge of a firearm.
The state attorney also filed charges against a woman, Karen Schwarze, 58.
Schwarze is charged with concealment of a homicidal death and obstructing justice.
She allegedly hid the .40-caliber pistol used in the shooting and pressured others not to speak to law enforcement.
