She apparently tried overtaking a truck by riding in between it and the pavement, but was hit by a car that was reversing.

She reportedly fell off her bike and was crushed under the truck, China Press reported.

The car that hit her then reportedly drove off from the scene.

A picture shared to social media showed passersby crowding around the fallen rider, whose helmet had come off.

Several online users subsequently posted appeals for eyewitnesses or dashcam footage of the accident.

Police are investigating the accident, according to China Press.

Outpouring of grief

Channa You's husband took to social media to mourn his wife.

"How long do you want me to cry? When will you wake up and talk with me? I want to go crazy," he wrote.

He also wrote that he hoped to find justice for his wife.

Channa's wake was held the next day, Sep. 6.

Various Cambodian biker groups shared their condolences and contributed towards the family's funeral expenses.

Road safety in Cambodia remains a significant public health challenge.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimated that more than 3,000 fatalities occurred from road crashes in Cambodia in 2021.

This meant Cambodia tied with Myanmar for the second-highest road crash fatality rate among countries in South East Asia in 2021, with 19 deaths per 100,000 people.

The highest was Thailand.
