She allegedly further wrote in her suicide note that she decided to be "selfish for once"
The ex-husband of the Malaysian woman who allegedly died after jumping into the waters at Pulau Ketam with her 3-year-old daughter has gone to the morgue to claim their bodies.
It was previously reported that the 41-year-old woman was a local who worked in Singapore.
The woman and her ex-husband filed for divorce two years ago due to a dispute, China Press reported.
Father allegedly had custody
It was reported that custody of their three-year-old daughter was given to her ex-husband.
According to China Press, the woman had left a suicide note allegedly claiming that she was worried that no one from her "ex-husband's family can take care of her daughter".
She allegedly further wrote that she decided to be "selfish for once" and die with her daughter.
China Press reported that the woman claimed to have been taking care of her daughter since she was two months old but was taken away by the ex-husband last year.
Footage of jump missing
Both China Press and Sin Chew Daily reported that 3 minutes and 33 seconds of surveillance footage, which captured the mother and daughter allegedly jumping from the jetty, were missing.
Neither outlet revealed the source of the CCTV footage.
According to the Malaysian media, surveillance footage from the time of the incident showed the mother and daughter leaving a homestay and walking on Pulau Ketam.
The mother was seen pulling a suitcase with one hand and carrying what appeared to be a bag in the other, while her daughter followed behind.
Shortly afterwards, when they arrived at the jetty, the mother no longer had the suitcase or any visible belongings.
The two were then seen squatting.
During this time, the daughter raised her hand and pointed into the distance, before leaning into her mother’s arms.
The mother was then seen embracing her daughter from behind.
According to the CCTV timestamp, the mother and daughter were last seen at the dock at 6:41:24am on Aug. 6.
However, the footage then abruptly jumped to 6:44:57am.
In the resumed footage, large ripples were visible on the water’s surface at the dock, accompanied by the sound of dogs barking.
