BlueSG retrenches ‘significant portion’ of its workforce
Up to 80%, according to a laid-off staff.
BlueSG has retrenched a majority of its workforce.
This was after the car-sharing platform announced on Aug. 4 that it was winding down operations and relaunching an upgraded platform in 2026.
Mothership received a tip-off from one of the laid-off employees, who claimed that up to 80 per cent of the company’s workforce were let go.
The person who provided the tip-off declined to reveal details of the severance package or how the downsizing exercise was carried out.
When asked for comment, BlueSG confirmed the layoffs.
It said in its statement that it hopes to rehire those affected in the future:
We can confirm that as operations pause for the platform upgrade, BlueSG will be operating with a lean core team – a move which has unfortunately impacted a significant portion of our workforce.
While we are not in a position to discuss numbers, supporting affected employees remains a top priority — with fair severance, clear communication, and meaningful career transition.
We’re also actively exploring potential redeployment opportunities across the group.
This decision was not made lightly, and we’re handling the process with utmost care and respect for everyone involved.
As we prepare for the next phase, we anticipate new roles to open up — and we genuinely hope to welcome back members of our original team where possible, when the upgraded platform launches.
In response to Mothership queries, National Transport Workers’ Union executive secretary Yeo Wan Ling said BlueSG is a non-unionised company.
She added: “Nonetheless, there are employees who are members of the National Transport Workers' Union (NTWU), an affiliated union with the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC). “
NTUC’s affiliated unions or associations will extend assistance and support to these affected members who are union members in non-unionised companies, she said.
Affected union members and workers can reach out to the union for assistance at 6743 0822 (during office hours) or via email at [email protected].
The statement added:
Affected Singaporeans and PRs can access career advisory and employment facilitation services such as career coaching, employability workshops and job matching from NTUC's e2i (Employment and Employability Institute). For more information, please visit www.e2i.com.sg. Affected union members may also seek help at TADM@NTUC or access NTUC’s online workplace advisory portal for advice or assistance for recourse.
