Water sprinkler system in Raffles City activates despite no fire detected

The water affected a small area near the first level entrance of the mall.

A spout of water was seen gushing from the ceiling of Raffles City on Aug. 4.

A user on the Chinese social media site Xiaohongshu caught the moment on camera.

In response to Mothership's query, a Raffles City Singapore spokesperson shared that the mall's water monitoring system for fire safety was activated at around 11am on Aug. 4.

The water affected a small area near the first level entrance of the mall.

The spokesperson added that no fire was detected, and the system has been isolated for further investigation.

The area was temporarily closed for cleaning and was subsequently reopened within 15 minutes.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank our shoppers for their understanding," said the spokesperson.
