Singaporean influencer Naomi Neo has responded to questions about her daughter's absence from her social media content.

The mum-of-two is known for documenting her daily life on social media, often including moments with her kids.

In an Instagram Story posted on Jul. 14, Neo addressed the recurring question of why she doesn’t post her daughter, Zyla, as much as her son, Kyzo.

A personal experience

The influencer reflected on her own experience growing up in the public eye from a young age, where she was frequently judged for her appearance and behaviour.

She wrote:

“This really made me struggle with my self-worth and affected my personal relationships for the longest time. I carried all of that baggage with me. Even until today, almost 30, I'm still trying to unlearn, heal, and rebuild my confidence."

As a mother to a daughter, she admits that she is deeply conscious of how the internet can shape a young girl’s identity.

Neo also highlighted how love isn’t determined by social media appearances.

“Just because someone doesn’t get posted as much doesn’t mean they’re loved any less,” Neo said.

She explained that when she started sharing about her son, it was simply her "documenting" their life together. But as her platform grew, so did the pressure to create content.

“I felt like I was becoming less present. So I took a step back, despite all the love we were receiving.”

Protecting her daughter's choice

At the same time, Neo shared that her daughter was now at the age where she is developing a personality and becoming more expressive.

While Neo has many viral videos with her son, she chose not to shift the spotlight to her daughter.

She clarified:

“I know what it’s like to grow up being watched and judged by people who don’t know you. I’m not trying to hide her - I’m just not making that choice for her. She’ll decide that for herself, whenever she’s ready.”

Addressing those who asked why it was “okay” to post her son in the past, Naomi said she’s simply grown and learned as a parent over the years and whatever content she posts of him is with his consent.

“It’s not about gender or favourites but about protecting my kids the best way I know how - even if it’s not your way, or the typical way.”

She ended the post, imploring for some understanding and a little less judgement.

"Not just to me,  but to any mom or parent out there doing their best in a world that always seems to think it knows better."
