Some 30 Chinese tourists got an unexpected shock when they returned from a quick 20-minute session visiting the Leaning Tower of Pisa on Jul. 3.

All of their luggage had been taken from their bus.

According to The Star, these included valuable gifts they had picked up on their tour such as a Rolex.

The tour reportedly cost over 20,000 yuan (S$3,577).

It was part of a broader European tour covering four countries, France, Switzerland, Germany, and the final stop, Italy.

Left their bags on the bus as they were tired

The bus had apparently been parked near a restaurant, which was located in a remote place.

A person on the bus, Jin, said the members did not feel the need to take the luggage or bags from the bus as there were surveillance cameras.

"It was extremely hot in Italy, and after a tiring morning, no one wanted to take their luggage or bags off the bus, especially since the bus was parked right at the restaurant entrance and there were surveillance cameras,"

Jin said there was a police report on the matter, but no action was taken despite CCTV footage and GPS location of the luggage.

A followup report by Global Times said the Italian police had issued a loss report, and the tourists could use this for insurance claims in the future.
