WhatsappThe women's 10km open water swimming event at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore was postponed due to water quality levels "exceeding acceptable thresholds".

The event, which takes place at Sentosa's Palawan Green, was initially scheduled to take place on Jul. 15 at 8 am. It has since been postponed till Jul. 16 at 10:15 am.

However, the World Aquatics put out a press release hours before the start and decided to postpone the race in "the utmost interest of athlete safety".

While the water rested in recent days consistently showed that the water quality at the venue met the World Aquatic's acceptable threshold, an analysis of samples taken on Jul. 13 surpassed the thresholds.

"The decision to postpone racing was made in the best interests of athlete health and safety, which remains World Aquatics and the Singapore 2025 Organising Committee's top priority," said World Aquatics.

Subsequent water samples and water quality review sessions will continue at the competition venue, where the World Aquatics and the Singapore 2025 organising committee will determine whether conditions are safe to proceed with the event on a later date.

"World Aquatics regrets the inconvenience caused by the postponement and acknowledges the commitment and preparation of all athletes, coaches, and teams.

The health and safety of participants remain the highest priority in all competition-related decisions."
