A female student, 20, was allegedly slashed by her ex-boyfriend, 21, at a private university in Subang Jaya, Malaysia on Jul. 14.

According to New Straits Times (NST), the victim had suffered slash wounds to the left side of her neck.

Both the victim and the ex-boyfriend are Chinese nationals.

What happened

According to NST, district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said that the police had received a report of a man injuring his ex-girlfriend at the private university at around 6:30pm on Jul. 14.

The ex-boyfriend was arrested and detained shortly after the incident, while the victim was sent to University Malaya Medical Centre for treatment.

The victim is currently in a stable condition, as reported in NST.

Video of the attack circulated online

According to Sin Chew Daily, a video of what had happened was uploaded by a Xiaohongshu user.

Sin Chew Daily reported that from the video, it appeared that the incident took place at a public area of the university.

The victim could be seen trying not to move while her neck was bleeding profusely.

Several students were also seen trying to help to cover her wounds in an effort to stop the bleeding.

Other people present at the scene appeared hesitant to move her, fearing that they might aggravate her injuries.

A man, suspected to be the attacker, was lying next to the victim and was restrained by a group of students and the campus police.

In the video, one of the students could also be seen confiscating the knife from the suspect after he was subdued and then handing it over to the campus police, as reported in Sin Chew Daily.

In the comments section, a user had shared a screenshot of a chat conversation, alleging that the suspect was the victim's ex-boyfriend and had a history of domestic violence.

However, this claim has yet to be confirmed by the police.

Investigations are underway

According to NST, investigations are still ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack.

Wan Azlan added that the case is being investigated under Section 324 for the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.

If convicted, the accused can be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison, fined, caned or any two of the three punishments listed.
