S'porean man, 32, asks boy, 14, to be 'friends with benefits', visits him with sex toys, gets caught red-handed
He was sentenced to 12 months in jail.
Even though a Singaporean man, then 31, knew that a boy he was chatting with on Telegram in December 2024 was 14 years old, he continued to ask him to be friends with benefits.
After the boy realised that the man, Yong Ming Quan, was asking him for sex, he informed his father, who then suggested that the boy invite Yong to their house in order to catch him red-handed.
On Jul. 28, 2025, Yong, now 32, was sentenced to 12 months' jail after admitting to his offence.
Knew victim was 14
According to court documents seen by Mothership, investigations revealed that Yong began using a bot named "Leomatch" on Telegram on Dec. 10, 2024, as he was bored and wanted to make friends.
When setting up his profile on "Leomatch", Yong indicated he was 18 years old, even though he was 31 years old at the time.
While using the bot, Yong's profile was matched with several people aged around 16 to 18 years old, including the victim, whose profile indicated that he was 14.
After starting a conversation with the victim, Yong asked if he wanted to be friends with benefits and revealed that he was 30 years old.
However, when the victim shared that he was 14 years old, Yong persisted in asking the victim to be friends with benefits.
Came up with plan to catch Yong red-handed
Later on, the victim realised through their conversations that Yong was asking him for sex.
In response, the victim informed his father about the situation, and his father suggested that the victim call Yong down to their house on Dec. 18, 2024 so that he could be caught red-handed.
Following his father's advice, the victim told Yong that he was "horny", to which Yong replied that he was on his way to the victim's house.
Concurrently, the victim alerted the police at 11:05am about Yong's impending arrival, stating that he had asked Yong to bring sex toy.
Arrested by police
The victim arrived at the void deck near his house to wait for Yong.
When Yong began approaching him, police officers arrested Yong.
They also seized three items as case exhibits, namely a transparent dildo, an egg-shaped sex toy, and a bottle of lubricant.
In remand since Dec. 20, 2024
Yong was remanded in the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) for forensic psychiatric evaluation from Dec. 20, 2024.
A report issued on Dec. 29 indicated that Yong was diagnosed with paedophilic disorder and had a history of voyeuristic disorder, which is in remission.
The report also assessed that there was no contributory link between Yong's disorder and the offence, meaning that he was not of unsound mind at the time of his offence, according to court documents.
Sentenced to 10 days' imprisonment in 2021
For his crime, Yong faced a total of two charges, including one count of sexual grooming of a minor below 16 years of age and gaining access to child abuse materials, which comprised 115 images and 326 videos, through his phone.
On Jul. 28, Yong was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment after pleading guilty to the former charge, while the latter charge was taken into consideration for his sentencing, reported 8world News.
During court proceedings, it was also revealed that Yong was sentenced to 10 days' imprisonment in 2021 for secretly filming a male victim showering and possessing obscene materials involving young boys.
