SIA to offer 100 pilots & 200 cabin crew positions to retrenched Jetstar Asia employees
Over 500 Jetstar Asia employees were affected by the airline's impending closure on Jul. 31.
The Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group will be creating "a number of opportunities" across its airlines for Jetstar Asia staff members affected by the budget airline's impending closure on Jul. 31, 2025.
These opportunities would include positions for around 100 pilots and 200 cabin crew, an SIA spokesperson told Mothership in a Jun. 13 statement.
"Our aim is to support as many affected staff as possible in continuing their careers within the aviation sector," added the spokesperson.
Over 500 Jetstar Asia employees affected by closure
On Jun. 11, Jetstar Asia announced that the airline would be progressively reducing its schedule before it ceases operations permanently by the end of July.
One factor that led to this decision was rising costs, which included escalating supplier costs, airport fees, aviation charges, as well as growing capacity and competition in the region, added the airline.
As a result, over 500 Jetstar Asia employees will be affected by its closure.
At the time, Jetstar Asia stated that it would be offering affected employees employment support services, in addition to redundancy benefits.
Likewise, the airline's parent company, Qantas, also said that it is actively working to find job opportunities across the group and with other airlines in the region.
SIA 'working closely' with Jetstar Asia since Jun. 11
According to the SIA spokesperson, SIA Group has been working closely with Jetstar Asia since Jun. 11 to explore employment opportunities for affected staff members.
As part of this effort, representatives from SIA and its budget arm Scoot will be at Jetstar Asia's office from Jun. 17 to 19 to meet with interested employees and share more about the available roles.
"We understand that this is a time of uncertainty, and are committed to providing the necessary support to help make the recruitment and onboarding process as smooth as possible," read the statement.
The spokesperson added that SIA appreciates the experience that Jetstar Asia employees bring and looks forward to welcoming the successful candidates into the SIA Group.
SIA progressively adjusting flight frequencies & network
On Jun. 12, an SIA spokesperson told Mothership that SIA Group will "progressively adjust" its flight frequencies and network to support the demand for air travel to destinations in Asia from August 2025.
Notably, Scoot will launch up to four-times weekly flights to Okinawa and two-times weekly flights to Labuan Bajo during the Northern Winter 2025 season, subject to regulatory approvals.
Jetstar Asia had been serving both flight routes exclusively before its Jun. 11 announcement.
The SIA spokesperson said all flight schedules will be announced in due course, subject to regulatory approval and alignment with its airline partners.
"The SIA Group continues to monitor the demand for air travel and adjust our network and capacity as needed," read the statement.
