A 62-year-old man was playing pickleball with his friends at a condominium complex in Telok Blangah on Jun. 11 evening when someone apparently threw a palm-sized rock from a building nearby.

According to the man, surnamed Wang (transliteration), the rock was thrown from about five floors above ground and almost landed on one of his friends, reported Shin Min Daily News.

Although Wang's friend, who was nearly hit by the rock, warned the alleged perpetrator that they were visible, another two smaller rocks were thrown from the building.

Wang and his friends lodged a police report the next day.

In response to Shin Min's queries, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed that a police report was lodged and that they are looking into the matter.

Wang's pickleball group comprised 6 condominium residents

Speaking to Shin Min, Wang said the incident happened at The Interlace along Depot Road.

Although Wang was not a resident of the condominium, six members of his 14-member pickleball group were residents of the condominium.

The group would usually meet at The Interlace at 6pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays to play pickleball.

On Mondays and Wednesdays, the group would play for three hours, whereas on Thursdays, they would play from 8pm to 10pm.

Children apparently playing at pickleball court when Wang's group arrived

On Jun. 11 (Wednesday), the group decided to play pickleball at the condominium at the invitation of one of its members, who was a resident, reported Shin Min.

As the pickleball court is a communal space, Wang and his group submitted an application to the condominium management in advance to reserve the court from 6pm to 8pm.

However, when Wang and his group arrived at the pickleball court at around 6pm, they apparently saw a dozen children between the age of six to 12 playing basketball and cricket there.

Wang and his group asked the children to leave.

Wang's group allegedly saw children upstairs

However, just as Wang and his group began their pickleball session, someone allegedly threw a rock from a building nearby, Wang said.

He surmised that the alleged perpetrator threw the rock from a linked walkway between blocks, which was located about five floors above ground.

"When we looked up, we saw four to five children," recounted Wang.

Although his friend, who was nearly hit by the rock, yelled in the alleged perpetrator's direction that they were visible, another two small stones were thrown from above.

Condominium investigating

Despite the incident, Wang said he and his friends were not affected and continued playing pickleball till around 8pm.

He added that they would continue playing the sport there moving forward.

In response to Shin Min's queries, a spokesperson from the company managing The Interlace declined to share further details of the incident, citing ongoing investigations.
